Denia moves towards pedestrianisation, Costa Blanca
Denia's main street, Calle Marques de Campo, is to be closed off to traffic from 3pm throughout the summer.
Previously only shut from seven in the evening, the decision - implemented by the local council - was made to make tourist movement around the town's main thoroughfares easier and more pleasant.
Restaurants in the area will be able to use the space created to set out extra tables, and therefore increase their revenue.
Councillors responsible for tourism in the city said that part of the mandate on which they were elected earlier this year was to create more pedestrianised areas.
According to them, their decision is final.
The Costa Blanca city proves a big draw for visitors each year, attracted by its especially warm climate and long hours of sunshine.
The buzzing urban centre contains not just the usual bars and restaurants, but museums, churches and a beautifully preserved old town.
The bucolic and peaceful Mount Montago, recently declared a Natural Park by the government, is also nearby.
