Assyrian treasures go on show, Costa Blanca
A new exhibition of treasures from the ancient civilisation of Assyria - the area in East Africa now known as Ethiopia - has gone on show in the Costa Blanca.
The Alicante Provincial Archaeological Museum (MARQ) is holding the special exhibition this summer, which features around 200 artefacts borrowed from the British Museum.
Art works dating back 2,500 years including tablets and pottery - along with more mundane but no less fascinating day-to-day objects such as house contracts - are all on display at the museum.
MARQ showcases various archaeological finds, with a special focus on the various conquerors of the territory in ages past - including the Romans and the Moors.
Spanish artefacts both predating and postdating the colonisations also feature at the museum, which was honoured with the 2004 European Museum of the Year title.
Along with the ancient heirlooms of Costa Blanca inhabitants past, audiovisual projections and computer graphics are used by the museum, along with interactive exhibits, to enhance visitor understanding of its collection.
The Assyrian Treasures exhibition is on show at the museum until the end of next month.
