Alicante is 'a yacht-racing paradise'
The Spanish holiday resort is famed for its beautiful boulevard, which stretches along the beach, affording spectacular views across the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea.
It also boasts an age-old port, which is worth visiting by those with either a taste for heading out to sea or merely a curiosity to sample the rhythms of life in the harbour.
The past fortnight has been a particularly busy time down at the seafront, with the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race beginning in Alicante.
Yachting has a deep-rooted history in the region, with the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante having been established in 1889.
A villa holiday in Alicante offers the perfect chance to head to the coast and breathe in the seafaring atmosphere of the province from its ancient, protected port.
