'Rare' ape born in Costa Blanca park
The first-ever Siamang ape has been born at the Terra Natura theme park in the Costa Blanca.
According to Euro Weekly, the Siamang is a form of gibbon ape, characterised by its extremely long arms and ability to swing from tree to tree at up to 60 kilometres per hour.
Its mother will look after and feed the baby for the first year of its life, before the father takes over.
Native to Malaysia and Sumatra Island, Siamangs can survive for up to 40 years in captivity.
As well as being home to this latest arrival, Terra Natura houses more than 1,500 other animals and is one of the Costa Blanca's most popular tourist attractions.
In addition to animals, Terra Natura also features 2,500 types of trees, bushes and plants, along with an exciting water park zone that is sure to keep the whole family entertained.
