'Feel like Sinbad' on a Costa Blanca holiday
According to one newspaper, for those who only have time to visit one castle, if they make it Xativa they will not be disappointed.
The Times claims that the fortress looks like it has come straight from the Voyages of Sinbad.
"Soaring battlements stretch for almost a kilometre along the spine of a long, high ridge above its cat's-cradle streets," it says.
When holiday makers have recovered from the breathtaking views they can head to the castle's beautiful Islamic gardens, which are "surrounded by a tumble of historical remnants, including Roman mosaic floors and Crusader tombs".
A visit to Xativa could offer the perfect day trip from a villa in the coastal town of Denia.
Denia is a lively resort with plenty of things to do during the day and night, while holiday makers can also book a trip to the Balearic Islands for the day by ferry.
With so much to do, visitors to Denia may only have time to visit one castle.
