Witness the olive harvest on a Corfu villa holiday

In the autumn the annual olive harvest begins, so holiday makers renting villas in Corfu in September and October will be able to witness it.

Writing for the Telegraph, travel journalist Keith Miller said there are around three million olive trees on the island and insisted that the autumn harvest is an "enchanting" time.

"The pace is slower, yet the sea still sparkles from the light of a lowering sun," he remarked. "As you drive around the island you can't miss those black nets wrapped around gnarled olive tree trunks."

Of course tourists can sample the produce themselves by eating out in some of Corfu's many tavernas, chomping on the succulent olives themselves or drizzling olive oil on their fresh salad and bread.

Like all Corfu villas, those in the village of Sgombou are surrounded by olive and citrus groves, but are also close to the beach resorts of Gouvia and Dassia on the coast, so may make an excellent base for an autumn holiday on the island.
