Tour the tavernas on a Corfu villa holiday
In an article for the Mirror, journalist Karin Wright said she managed to make her way through the entire repertoire of Greek cuisine during her week-long stay.
She explained that each day's activities were organised around meals at restaurants recommended by friendly locals.
And she recommended hiring a car to explore the island and reach some of the truly authentic tavernas away from the tourist resorts.
Dishes on the menu during her holiday included Greek salad with juicy tomatoes and crumbly feta cheese, baklava desserts, grilled haloumi cheese, shish kebabs and moussaka, washed down with ice-cold Mythos or Alpha lager.
Holiday makers who like the idea of taverna-hopping in Corfu could rent a villa in the village of St Stefano, which has retained much of its traditional Greek charm.
Avlaki is also just a five minute drive away and boasts a wide variety of tavernas and cafes.
