Easter is a smashing time to visit Corfu
Corfu celebrates Easter by smashing as much pottery as it can and visitors will be invited to join in the exciting event.
By 11 am on the Saturday, most of Corfu's population are ready to finish church and head home.
But rather than relax, the locals rush home to get to their balconies and grab any earthenware vessels they can and launch them from their windows and into the streets.
Locals celebrate Easter on Saturday rather than Sunday and Greek's perceive Easter as an opportunity to let off some steam after celebrating the 40 days of Lent in the run up to the event.
The custom is found all over the island and it is believed to have come from the Venetians who would throw their old things from their windows on New Year's day.
Some jugs are even filled with water for a louder bang - and a bigger mess.
