Mr Simon, who hosts National Public Radio's Weekend Edition and writes essays for the BBC, has told of his love of Brittany, which could rub off on others and encourage them to book a villa holiday in the French region.
Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, Mr Simon said: "The small town in Brittany where my wife's family has a home is a special place for us."
While he talked about the blustery weather that the region can often endure, he added it only makes the sunshine even sweeter, while the food is one of his favourite reasons for going back.
"The mussels and bulot [sea snails] are without rival," he enthused.
People planning a villa holiday in the region should make sure they sample the local fare, which can be a treat on any visit abroad.
The Brittany Tourist Board recently pointed out many Britons have chosen to relocate to the area on a permanent basis and are opening up new parts of the region to other foreign travellers.
Michael Dodds, director of the Brittany Tourist Board, pointed out the various inland waterways that the region has on offer that visitors on a villa holiday could explore.
