Young golfers can work on their game at the Golf de Freslonniere Club on the outskirts of Rennes, while those who think they can give the professionals a run for their money can take part in the 2009 Brittany Pro-Am, which is hosted by the Pleneuf Val Andre Golf Club in May.

According to Brittany Tourism, whether golfing holiday makers select a friendly nine-hole course by the coast or a luxurious course at a private manor, the "breathtaking scenery combined with the choice of courses for experienced professionals and keen amateurs has ensured Brittany’s place as an emerging European golf destination".

A total of 34 golf courses can be found all across the region and fees start from 33 euros (£30).

Having the use of a car is essential for those who rent a villa in Brittany to allow them to truly appreciate the beautiful countryside and take in all the varied fairways.
