Semana Santa on an Andalucia villa holiday
Semana Santa, or Holy Week, sees colourful processions, prayers and masses take place throughout the region.
From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday events take place throughout Andalucia, with processions led by members of religious brotherhoods.
Holiday makers can also expect a mixture of exciting events with the main processions often featuring crowds carrying statues.
Different areas have differing traditions and Alicante observes a silence at midnight on Maundy Thursday, in contrast to the Easter procession which is an exciting and loud occasion full of songs and tradition.
Flowers are decorated around the cities of Andalucia during this time and holiday makers can expect intense celebrations for the duration of the week as it is the most important religious festival in the Christian calendar.
