Seaside festival tempts visitors out of their Andalucia villa
Taking place in fishing villages across Andalucia, Nerja is a great spot to see the event which is a festival to ensure the safety of seamen across the region.
Every July 17th, those holidaying in a family villa in Andalucia should venture from the tranquil atmosphere of their private pool and watch the parades.
Statues of the virgin are paraded across the coast line by the water and are eventually set sail in decorated boats to the sound of horns and the light of fireworks.
Different areas of the region have different variations of the festival including Malaga which includes scuba divers in the tradition.
Fishing villages take the event so seriously because the virgin is the patron saint of fishermen.
Holiday makers will be glad to venture out of their Andalucia villa for the occasion which provides a great opportunity to see a bit of Spanish culture.
