Natural Parks: Andalucia

Six parks in Andalucia have been awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, including the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park near Malaga and Ronda.

Europarc is a non-governmental organisation working for the protected areas of Europe and they award parks that they feel are adopting the right approach in developing and managing sustainable tourism.

The Sierra de las Nieves, covering 202 kilometres, has lots of activities to attract holiday makers for a visit.

La Fuenfria is a quiet and secluded spot for picnics or a rest and is next to a natural spring which supplies water to local estates.

Evidence of a mining community are nearby and there is also a ruined farmhouse.

Los Quejigales is a recreation area with a barbeque site and a camping area and is the beginning to a walk up to the summit of Torrecillo, one of the many walks that keen ramblers can explore in the park.

Driving further down the coast will lead to the Parque Natural de las Sierras de Tejeda, near Nerja, another beautiful area of Spanish landscape.

A trip to Andalucia certainly provides more than just a chance to relax in the sun and going to one of the natural parcs is a great way to add a new dimension to a holiday.
