Maro Fair, Andalucia

A four-day festival of processions and music will take place in the holiday destination of Andalucia in early September.

The Maro Fair runs from September 5th to September 9th and offers many attractions to holiday makers, from dancing to fireworks and live music.

The festivities begin on the first evening with a procession by the 'Banda Municipal de Frigiliana' followed by fireworks to announce the beginning of the fair

The 'Feria Queen' (fair queen) and the ladies of honour and junior 'feria queen' are to be announced towards the end of the evening.

Younger children have a chance to get involved in the entertainment with the 'Nerja theatre workshop' on the second day and more Spanish dancing continues into the night with flamencos and fandangas.

There is a mass to honour the patron saint, la Virgen de las Maravillas before more festivities continue in the area which is close to popular holiday destination, Nerja.

The fair concludes with the announcement of the new 'Junta de Festejos' (organising committee) and then the dancing continues through the night until the fair is declared over.

As of August 29th the fair is free - except for one performance on the penultimate night by local group Medina Azahara, which costs eight euros for a pre-booked ticket and ten euros on the night.
