Malaga 'an overlooked treasure'
But ignoring the port city means holiday makers will miss out on what has been dubbed an "overlooked treasure" by one travel journalist.
Writing in the Telegraph, Natalie Paris said Malaga is a "vibrant and cultural city" that has an "authentic charm" and boasts the best climate in Europe.
She urged tourists visiting Andalucia to drive into Malaga for a day and wander around the Moorish ruins, visit the local Picasso museum or enjoy tapas with the locals by the sea.
"In short, it is one of the most underrated cities in Spain and there are several good reasons to visit now," Ms Paris stressed.
Those who wish to take her advice could rent an Andalucia villa in the Spanish village of Torrox, which is just 40 minutes away from Malaga.
It also has a beautiful beach along its nine-kilometre stretch of coastline and a bustling promenade lined with numerous traditional restaurants and bars.
