Join in with the Fiestas del Virgen del Carmen in Nerja

The popular seaside town of Nerja reportedly honours the Virgen del Carmen with the aid of a remarkable coastal procession.

Virgen del Carmen is the patron saint of seafarers and before the day itself the festival kicks of with floral offerings to the saint, according to Whatsonwhen.

On the day there is a fish barbecue with "plenty of folkloric activity, drinking and dancing".

"The evening culminates in a huge firework display, lighting up the sea - for the best views head to Calahonda Beach," the site adds.

One of the best things about the fiesta is that holiday makers who rent a villa in Nerja will have it right on their doorstep and be able to take part in the celebrations, witness the fireworks and have a drink or two with the locals.
