Flamingo mad on an Andalucia villa holiday
The reserve, near Malaga in Spain, is home to a large colony of the unusual birds.
Around 600 new flamingo chicks were recently measured and ringed as part of a conservation effort before being released into the lagoon.
Holiday makers staying in the region could take a day trip to Fuente de Piedra to see the birds in their natural habitat.
The reserve is the largest and most important breeding ground for flamingos in the Iberian Peninsula.
According to Typically Spanish, regional government figures show that more than 130,000 chicks have been born at Fuente de Piedra in the last 25 years.
The lagoon is also home to a wide variety of other bird species, which families can spot and identify during their day out.
Those planning a trip to Fuente de Piedra could rent an Andalucia villa in Torrox and drive to the reserve.
Torrox is a traditional Spanish village with a local market and handful of bars, which may suit those looking for a relaxing break.
However, Torrox Costa is just a few kilometres away with a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and shops.
