Feast of Saint Martin: Andalucia

As the winter draws in the festival celebrates the preparation of winter and much of it revolves around food.

Holidaymakers who like pork will be especially at home as the meat is heavily involved in the festival.

The communities of the provinces of Grenada and Trevelez prepare for the winter-time by drying hams and sausages and the locals call the festival, la matanza.

They begin the day by preparing the meat and then they make the sausages and black pudding, along with enjoying lots of eating and drinking.

Sausages are very important to the area with red chorizo and black morcilla the most well-known.

Holidaymakers looking to take a trip to the region will not want to miss the festival and despite it signifying the beginning of winter, temperatures in Andalucia will still be hitting the 20s.
