Big cat making a comeback on an Andalucia holiday
Big cats are usually associated with an African safari, but in Andalucia the Iberian lynx is king of the jungle and a breeding programme has just received some success.
A lynx in the breeding programme near Huelva had produced her fourth litter in captivity - an illustration of the success of the project - and is a boost for the survival of the species.
The serious issue facing the lynx is the destruction of its natural habitat and their native Donana is being destroyed.
But the programme is trying to put the animals back on Andalucia's map and Luis Suarez, a spokesman for Spain's WWF/Adena, told the Independent that they were trying to recolonise the lynx population to new habitats.
If this is successful, holiday makers on an Andalucia holiday may find that they get a chance to see the rare cat in the Spain.
