Andalucia villa tourists invited to explore Granada
A visit to the location is a chance to explore the blend of Arabic and European influences that form the city's character, according to the Sunday Times Travel Magazine.
Tourists staying in Andalucia villas can finish their traditional Spanish meal of tapas with an Arabic pastry in a charming cafe, before wandering the coloured-lantern strewn streets.
However, the city's Arabic flavour is perhaps best expressed through its architecture.
Top of the itinerary could be the Alhambra, said to be one of the greatest achievements in Islamic architecture.
"In the soft light of early morning or the warm glow of sunset, it is just as mesmerising. Step inside and it is even more so, especially in spring when the gardens bloom and visitors are fewer," suggests the magazine.
Granada did not get its name until the Arabic invasion of the peninsula in the eight century, prior to which it was known as Illibris by the Romans after they colonised southern Spain.
