Visit festivals during an Algarve villa holiday
Festivals in Portugal could add some local flavour to an Algarve holiday, it has been claimed.
An article on website TravelBite suggests those staying in the region may wish to attend one of its many carnivals and sample the culture.
It claims such celebrations often take place over several days and include street parties, entertainment and the opportunity to sample the "delicious local cuisine", including pancakes and battered doughnuts.
Other regional delicacies highlighted include stews and casseroles made with wild boar and mutton, while visitors to the region are also advised to walk through the hills around Silves to experience the rural Algarve or view it on horseback.
Finally, the piece points to the many beaches in the area that allow for swimming and strolling on the sand.
Festivals that may interest holiday makers staying at Algarve villas with pools include the annual Corpus Christi celebrations in June, which take place across Portugal and the Ria Formosa food and drink event in Faro city centre during August.
