Visit charming Lisbon from villa in Algarve
Britons staying in villas in the Algarve this winter could choose to visit the charming city of Lisbon, should they wish to leave the coast for a day or two.
Christopher Middleton, author of a review of the Portuguese capital for the Daily Telegraph, says it offers character and vibrancy within its small cobbled streets and courtyards.
One particular highlight is the funicular railway system that allows tourists to climb to the top of overlooking hills and enjoy great views.
And there is no lack of sights and attractions either, with Mr Middleton reserving special praise for the exhibitions of Lisbon.
"The city's museums are not the grandiose, stuffy palaces you find in many European capital but altogether younger and more vibrant destinations," he writes.
It was recently reported by the Portugal News that one aspect of the country experts are trying to save is its population of seahorses, with a project underway in the Algarve to enhance the creature's surroundings.
