The Algarve to receive 'underwater museum'
People who are regular visitors to villas in the Algarve and are looking for something a little different may be interested to hear of a development of an attraction in Portimao.
The Portuguese resort is setting in motion plans to make an underwater museum three miles of its coast, which could be available for Brits to seek out as early as next summer.
Work on the attraction will get underway with the dismantling of four Portuguese naval ships, which will then be sunk to make the site.
Such a decision has been made possible due to a protocol being signed between the navy and the town hall, which means that the vessels' ownership can be switched.
Commenting to the Lusa News Agency on the plans, Manuel da Luz, mayor of Portimao, said: "The ships will be sunk in an area that is void of sealife and it is hoped they will increase the diversity of species."
Meanwhile, those seeking out last-minute breaks in Algarve villas could experience a fun-filled day out if they head to Paderne, as the resort is hosting an exhibition by popular painter Christopher Rainham on August 20th and 21st.
