The Algarve is a 'golfing haven'
The Algarve is not just attracting holiday makers but professional golfers as the European Tour this week visits Portugal for the third time this year, according europeantour.com.
This week, the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura will welcome some of the biggest names in the golfing world to its pristine greens.
The official tour website has reported that more than 300,000 golfers make their way to Portugal's hallowed courses every year to play a total of 1.4 million rounds of golf.
Portugal is said to offer 75 golf courses and 33 of these can be found in the Algarve alone.
Holiday makers that want to tread in the footsteps of modern golfing greats could choose to stay in one of the many villas in the fashionable Vilamoura.
After getting lucky with a hole in one, golfers could try their fortune at the resort's casino while whose that scored one too many bogies may want to drown their sorrows in one of the many bars and restaurants at the beautiful marina.
