Take the kids on a nature trail in Faro

According to What's on When, the Lekki Conservation Centre near Lagos was founded in 1990 and is home to a wide variety of animal species and plants.

The aim of the centre, which is free to enter, is to preserve the ecosystem of the region and make sure it survives for future generations.

Some of the distinctive creatures visitors will be able to spot include giant rats, mona monkeys and crocodiles.

There are a number of nature trails for families to follow through swamps and savannahs and special viewing platforms give them a unique view of each habitat.

Those hoping to visit the Lekki Conservation Centre could rent an Algarve villa in Lagos, where there are a number of other attractions.

These include a museum charting the history of the town, a marina and a five-kilometre stretch of sandy beach.
