Spice up an Algarve villa holiday

Those renting an Algarve villa can spice up their holiday by sampling Portugal's signature sauce piri-piri.

The fiery delicacy is made from piri-piri chillies and is used as an accompaniment to a wide variety of local dishes.

Holiday makers are likely to see it perched on the table along with other condiments at the dinner table in any restaurants they visit.

Those who enjoy its spicy taste can even purchase their own bottle to take home, as it is on offer in most Portuguese supermarkets.

In an article for the Chicago Tribune, journalist David Leite said no place in the world does piri-piri better than the Algarve.

And he claimed that the town of Guia is "ground zero" for the tasty sauce

"On Friday and Saturday nights, open-air restaurants are packed with long tables tight with families, expats and tourists," he stated.

Holiday makers can rent their own Algarve villa in Guia, which lies around five kilometres to the west of Albufeira.

It is also just a short distance from some of the Algarve's major tourist attractions, including the Zoomarine aqua park.
