See the F1 Powerboat championship launch on an Algarve villa holiday

People taking Algarve villa holidays this year will have the opportunity to see the first event in the 2010 F1 Powerboat World Championship.

The contest will take place in Portimao on the weekend of May 8th and 9th.

Leading powerboat drivers and teams from all over the world will travel to Portugal to take part in the race, which is one of the biggest annual sporting events held in Portimao.

Algarve villa guests will be able to gather along with thousands of other spectators around the estuary of the Arade river to watch the high-speed races.

Each day will begin with a free practice session, which will be followed by time trials and a climactic grand prix race lasting 30 minutes.

The current F1 Powerboat champion is Guido Cappellini of Italy, who won last year's series by ten points.

People planning Algarve villa holidays this year might be interested in visiting Portimao to try out some more accessible aquatic activities, such as windsurfing, jet-skiing and scuba diving.
