See some unique sculptures on an Algarve villa holiday

Holiday makers staying in Algarve villas will soon be able to see a selection of impressive sand sculptures at a festival taking place in the region.

Preparations are now underway for the FIESA 2010 sand sculpture festival, which will be held in Pera for the eighth consecutive year.

Guests staying in villas in Albufeira, Carvoeiro and other popular locations will be able to visit Pera between May 22nd and October 22nd to see the display.

Around 50 sculptors from all over the world are participating in the show this year, working with 35,000 tonnes of sand that will be turned into a range of impressive exhibits.

The theme for this year's festival is flora and fauna, meaning visitors will be able to see representations of animals including elephants, gorillas, penguins, birds and fish, according to the Algarve Resident.

A programme of live music performances, visual art displays and other cultural activities will also be arranged as part of the event.

People planning Algarve villa holidays this year will have the opportunity to attend a number of shows and festivals being arranged as part of the Allgarve '10 cultural season, which will run throughout the summer.
