See "breathtaking countryside' on an Algarve boat trip
According to the Sunday Mail, holiday makers can enjoy the river on a boat trip from Vila Real de Santo Antonio.
It says that Vila Real de Santo Antonio is an "attractive" town at the mouth of the river, which itself flows through "breathtaking countryside".
Some tours can even take those renting a villa in the Algarve 30 miles away to Alcoutim, "a small, unspoiled village with an informative museum and castle that offers views across the river to Spain".
The newspaper claims that Algarve's beaches are always what attract people to the region, but its history, culture and countryside are "just as incredible".
For those who wish to rent a villa in an unspoilt land with a laidback lifestyle, then Sao Bras in the hills north of Faro, could be just for them.
