Play like a pro on an Algarve villa holiday

In an article for Herald.ie, journalist Lucille Redmond described the Algarve as "gorgeous golf country" and said there is plenty for sporting enthusiasts around the resort of Vilamoura, where she stayed during her trip.

She said the Amendoeira course offers holiday makers the chance to perfect their swing with the help of experts such as Nelson Cavalheiro, who she described as "a gifted teacher who made even unpromising pupils hit the ball straight".

Amendoeira is home to a course designed by golf legend Nick Faldo, which opened in September last year and features cacti, wild herbs and desert scrub bunkers, not to mention incredible views.

Holiday makers hoping to travel to the Algarve to play on this and other courses in the region may wish to follow Ms Redmond's lead and book a cheap villa in Vilamoura.

The resort has a large marina with numerous restaurants and bars where golfers can relax and recharge their batteries in between rounds.
