New flights to link Newcastle with villas in the Algarve
Britons living in the north of England and southern Scotland are to have an extra option when it comes to travelling to a villa in the Algarve next year.
Budget airline Jet2.com has announced it is creating 100 new jobs at Newcastle Airport and basing an additional plane there in order to cope with demand for flights to five destinations, including the south of Portugal.
The carrier confirmed it will take on 118 staff, both in the airport and on the plane, to offer the services.
"Customer feedback shows there are additional routes and services the people of the north-east want and we have factored those into our plans," explains Jet2.com boss Phillip Meeson.
Another of the destinations to be served by the transport provider is Alicante, which means people in the region will be able to enjoy a villa on the Costa Blanca just as easily.
Jet2.com has flown more than 20 million passengers to in excess of 50 locations since it was founded 30 years ago.
