Music lovers given incentive to take holidays to the Algarve
People looking to experience some unique music performances while travelling may want to book up villas in the Algarve this December.
The popular Portuguese destination will be hosting the Fado Festival on December 9th and 10th in the resort of Portimao.
Seen as the traditional genre of urban folk music in Portugal, the theme will be showcased by such singers as Ana Moura, Cuca Roseta and Carlos do Carmo.
Event organiser Carlos Veloso pointed out to the Lusa News Agency that fado is one of the only Portuguese traditions which has not been celebrated in the country with its very own festival.
However, he acknowledged: "Two or three traditional Fado Houses from Lisbon will have a space at the Portimao Arena where improvised fado will … be performed before, during the interval and at the end of each show."
Roughly translated to mean bittersweet longing, fado usually has songs styled around lost or unrequited love, as well as general sadness.
