Local authorities urged to make Algarve holidays more accessible
Algarve holidays could be a more accessible option for people with reduced mobility in the future.
The regional tourist board has challenged local authorities to make improvements that will make popular destinations accessible to all, the Algarve Resident reported.
A wide-ranging study is set to be carried out to determine where changes need to be made.
Almeida Pires, vice-president of the Algarve Tourism Board, said: "We want the Algarve to be an inclusive destination in relation to accessibility.
"We have launched this challenge to the public sector to serve as an example for the private sector to follow in order to create affordable and attractive conditions for all tourists."
The campaign is expected to lead to a number of improvements that will make Algarve holidays more appealing for people with reduced mobility, including enhanced parking options and specially adapted restroom facilities.
Holiday makers planning to visit southern Portugal this year can ensure they have a comfortable stay by booking villas in Albufeira or Carvoeiro, which are among the most popular destinations in the region.
