Holiday makers planning an Algarve villa break this summer might want to schedule their trip to coincide with a popular event due to take place in the region.
The Castro Marim Medieval Days festival will be held between August 26th and 29th.
People staying in family villas in the Algarve will be able to visit Castro Marim while the event is running for a genuine experience of what life was like in medieval times.
Several activities are arranged for the occasion, including traditional games, sporting tournaments, street entertainment and old-fashioned craft fairs.
Castro Marim's castle is the centrepiece of the festival every year, playing host to performers dressed up as kings and queens, knights in armour, jesters, noblemen and other characters.
All of the participants take part in a procession in front of the crowds of visitors who make the trip to southern Portugal to attend the event every year.
People on Algarve holidays will also be able to visit the popular resort of Albufeira this year to join in with a festival due to run from July 21st to 25th.
