Holiday makers in Algarve 'benefit from rapid rail link to Lisbon'
People who take holidays in the Algarve in the future can enjoy a slightly reduced travelling time to the Portugese capital of Lisbon by train.
A new track across a 29-mile stretch between the south coast and the country's largest city has reduced the journey time by ten minutes, meaning tourists can now travel between the destinations in less than three hours, reports the Portugal News.
Rail company Refer made the investment in a new bypass route that reduced the distance by seven kilometres and creates the opportunity for trains to travel at higher speeds.
Some €159 million (£138.1 million) has been spent on the project that will benefit those travelling on the intercity trains.
It may be ideal for people who would like the sunshine and beautiful beaches of a holiday in the Algarve while not missing out on the country's cultural centre.
