Tourists booking Algarve holiday villas will soon have a new sports centre to make use of.
The Portugal News reports construction of the facility, which is located near the Ria Formosa in Faro, is expected to begin this month, with almost €1 million (£841,000) being contributed by the European Union.
Speaking to the Lusa News Agency, mentor of the project Ricardo Duarte said he hopes it will be used by holidaymakers as well as local residents.
"There is no public facility like this in the Algarve [at present]," he observed.
Among the features of the sports centre will be a climbing wall, indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and a gym, as well as spa facilities.
Faro is also an ideal destination for golf fans, with Skyscanner recently noted the destination - located in southern Portugal - has a range of high-quality courses to choose from, along with "spectacular" beaches and restaurants serving gourmet food.
