Foodies may be wise to book Algarve villa
An Algarve villa this summer could provide a base for a sun holiday with a difference.
That is because, according to one travel writer, the destination offers excellent cuisine full of flavour from local sources.
Bill Robertson, author of a piece for Postmedia News, tells how he arrived in the Algarve a hungry man after a long coach journey from Lisbon.
He says the region's reputation for sardines is warranted, with the dish he was served described as "terrific, fresh and grilled perfectly" – and that was only the starter.
Commenting on the main course, Mr Robertson writes: "Both platters contained seven sardines, each the size of a small perch, heads, innards and all. Then there were the large tossed salads, the tray of vegetables, and a big bowl of baked potatoes. "
There are plenty more food and drink treats in store for those who secure an Algarve villa in the coming months.
It is not only the culinary delights of the area that will please visitors though, with photographer Judy Slack telling the Ottawa Citizen recently that she was taken aback by the scenery.
