Expert: Stray inland during Algarve holiday
Tourists heading to the Algarve for a holiday in the sun at some point during 2011 have been handed advice from a travel expert.
Tom Hall, editor at Lonely Planet, says his top tip is to head away from the coast in order to enjoy an authentic experience.
"If you are looking for a distinctive Spanish or Portuguese experience then you should try and do a little bit of exploring inland rather than just sticking to beaches," he states.
Mr Hall suggests heading only a small distance away from the sea – even as little as ten miles – in order to enjoy a totally different experience.
While the beautiful beaches and crystal-clear seas are a highlight of any Algarve holiday, some people may like to enjoy the region's authentic side while they are there.
According to the recent Holiday Money Report by the Post Office, Portugal is the best value destination for a break in Europe.
