Enjoy 'tremendous value' on an Algarve villa holiday

Travellers should not find it hard to get a lot from their budget during a break in Portugal, such as an Algarve villa holiday, according to an expert.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services, said that both Portugal and Spain are affordable options for Brits as they generally have low living expenses.

People planning Algarve villa holidays and other breaks in the eurozone this year will also be encouraged by recent improvements in the rate of exchange between the pound and the single European currency.

Offering some advice for holiday makers, Ms Munro said: "Remember, it's not always about what you can get for your pound, but what your pound can get for you abroad.

"Countries such as Portugal or Spain can prove to be tremendous value as the improving exchange rate combined with low living costs mark them out as top value destinations."

The Post Office spokeswoman also suggested that Turkey holidays could prove a popular option this summer, with recent statistics suggesting that the lira will be a "big seller".
