Tourists who book a stay at a villa in the Algarve will find themselves in "sleek and stylish surroundings", suggests a travel writer.
Leigh Mencarini, author of a piece for the Wokingham Times, says the western end of the region is a very special place.
About an hour from Faro Airport, the area is home to luxury resorts, top restaurants and spectacular views.
The author advises people to secure a hire car for at least part of their stay in order to experience the magic of the Algarve, although even on her doorstep she found the pretty town of Sagres, with its sandy beach and deep-sea fishing facilities.
People who holiday in this part of the Algarve can also enjoy the novelty of positioning themselves at Europe's most westerly point.
Mark Kendall, writing for Sky Sports, recently spoke about another of the great reasons to visit southern Portugal – golf – suggesting some of the courses on offer are of the highest quality.
