Foodies planning Algarve villa holidays will be able to enjoy some fantastic seafood during their break.
As Charlotte Swift, editor of Food and Travel magazine explained, Portugal is famous for its seafood dishes.
She said the nation's dishes are heavily influenced by the waters that surround it, even further inland where the flavours are full and rich.
"Many of the country's traditional dishes contain fish drawn from the surrounding Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean," she remarked.
Examples of dishes that Algarve villa holiday makers may wish to try include bacalhau, which is dried salt cod, and sardines.
Hearty bowls of caldeiradas, or fish stew, can also be found on restaurant menus throughout Portugal.
Of course seafood is not the only option in the Algarve. Tourists can sample local delicacies like chicken piri piri, as well as rich Portuguese wines.
Wine connoisseurs can rent Algarve villas in Sao Bras, which is famous for producing corks used in some of the world's finest tipples.
It also produces almond confectionary, which holiday makers could take back as souvenirs for friends and relatives.
