Birdwatchers spot 116 bird species in the Algarve
Nature lovers may be encouraged to snap up villas in the Algarve after hearing of the success of the Sagres Birdwatching Festival.
The second edition of the event was held in the Portuguese region between September 30th and October 2nd and saw 116 different feathery friends spotted during the occasion.
More than 700 people helped to observe the animals, which included 16 varieties of birds of prey being seen across the Algarve.
The corncrake was also spotted, a significant observation seeing as though the bird is heading towards extinction in Portugal, as well as several other European nations.
Fans of nature may have more opportunities to explore the natural trails of the Algarve while on holiday, after the Lusa News Agency recently reported that plans are in place to improve the Via Algarviana walking route.
Anabela Santos, project coordinator and member of the regional environmental association Almargem, noted that the enhancements are "giving the Via everything that it was still lacking - new infrastructures, strategies to raise awareness and a new management model".
