Autumn Algarve holiday makers can watch the region 'burst with life'

Algarve holidays are popular all year round, but those hoping to see the Portuguese region in its true glory should head there in the autumn.

According to an article in the Independent, the Algarve "bursts with life" at this time of year, as the grass grows greener and wildflowers dot the landscape.

The vineyards, which are coming to the end of this year's harvest, also create some spectacular scenery, while migratory birds fill the skies.

"Autumn visitors to the Algarve are now preparing to enjoy the combined treats of beautiful scenery, good food, fine wine and some welcome peace and quiet," the article stated.

Indeed, the region's beautiful beaches are free of the tourist crowds during October and temperatures still hover around 20 degrees C, making an afternoon on a sun lounger seem like an attractive proposition.

But beaches are not all the Algarve has to offer. Holiday makers can spend their time walking along the coast and taking in the colourful autumn flora or playing a few rounds of golf on one of the region's many championship courses.

Cycling through the vineyards also offers plenty of opportunities for wine tasting and bird watching.

Those renting Algarve villas in Almancil may find that this bustling town is the perfect base from which to explore the local area.

Situated slightly away from the coast and surrounded by pine forests, it could be a great place to go walking, although the beach resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago are not far away.
