Algarve villas 'ideal for foodies'

Food lovers who are preparing to jet off overseas this summer have been told why they should check-in to Algarve villas.

Irish Times author Alex Meehan has admitted that the Portuguese destination would not have sprung to mind straight away as an ideal destination for foodies.

However, the writer acknowledged that there is a change going on in the Algarve that is beginning to alter the perception of the location.

Alex Meehan explained: "The Algarve is making a name for itself as a food lover's destination, combining some of the most adventurous cooking in Europe with great indigenous ingredients and wines that stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's best."

To help those who are booking up villas in the Algarve, Irish chef Jonnie Pratt recommended taking a venture into the eateries where the locals wine and dine.

One fan of the Portuguese destination is Manchester United's Michael Owen, who recently told the Daily Mail that "the weather is always perfect" there.
