Algarve villas: Walking event takes place in region
People who are taking up Algarve villas have been told of the feats achieved at a sporting event in the Portuguese region last weekend.
On Saturday (May 21st), the location was awash with young athletes, as they competed in the junior women's 10km race walking event at the European Cup of Race Walking, RTE reported.
Both gold and silver medals were presented to the Russian duo of Yelana Lashmanova and Svetlana Vasilyeva, respectively.
The Irish were also able to stake a claim on the top-three podium, after Waterford athlete Kate Veale was able to finish the race with a time of 46.32 minutes, only around three minutes shy of first place and eleven seconds inside her Irish record.
Commenting on the achievement, Ms Veale said: "It's fabulous to be here competing against the best in the world, and even sweeter to win a medal. It was very warm but the venue was great and so was the circuit."
Recently, Michael Owen encouraged sporting people to check out villas in the Algarve, pointing out to the Daily Mail that the area's Quinta do Lago golf course "is as good as it gets".
