Algarve villas: The decline of the postcard
Brits seem to be discarding the traditional communication technique of sending postcards home when on holiday, in such destinations as Algarve villas.
This is the findings of a new study by Cox & King, which found that just 15 per cent of British holiday makers now deliver postcards.
Instead, 35 per cent of people prefer to use the more modern technique of texting and sending photo messages using their mobile device.
As well as SMS, updating a Facebook page and sending emails are also proving popular techniques for those on getaways getting in touch with friends and family back in the UK.
"With the emergence of smart phones it seems people are opting to send instant updates and share photos from holiday rather than send traditional postcards," acknowledged Philip Hamilton-Grierson, marketing director at Cox & Kings.
However, Brits using their smartphones abroad, such as in villas in the Algarve, should be aware of the costs, after a Carphone Warehouse study highlighted that many are being hit by high bills after their flight home.
