Algarve named one of world's top destinations
Holiday makers may be keen to snap up villas in the Algarve when they hear that the popular Portuguese region has been named as one of the best getaway destinations in the world.
The holiday hotspot has been ranked 29th in the New York Times' top 45 destinations of 2012, following a readers poll.
Looking into the appeal of the Algarve, the publication's food and travel writer Alexander Lobrano noted that the region is "a major package holiday destination for northern Europeans".
He was also keen to highlight the attraction that the Portuguese area's fish-canning town of Olhao can present to people seeking out stays in Algarve villas.
Mr Lobrano explained that the eastern Algarve resort has an array of "natural attractions, including the Ria Formosa, a national park made up of one of the largest barrier-reef lagoons in Europe where you might have the pristine beauty of white sand beaches to yourself - for now, at least".
Golf fans were also recently told that readers of British magazine Today's Golfer have named the Algarve as the best value for money golf destination in Europe.
