Algarve holidays offer an 'endless golf banquet'
Foodies have always enjoyed Algarve holidays thanks to the culinary delights served up in the region, but keen golfers can also indulge in an "endless golf banquet" when they travel to the area.
In an article for Golf International, writer David Brice said top golf courses are in good supply in the Algarve, but insisted the central part of the region offers some of the best.
Here, holiday makers are "within a chip shot" of around dozen "cream of the crop" layouts, with the area around Vilamoura offering some of the best.
Mr Brice described this popular resort community as "eight square miles of unadulterated Algarve bliss".
Indeed, he pointed out that there is no other place in Europe where players can have five championship courses on their doorstep and another six within a ten-minute drive.
He named Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo as two resorts that boast excellent golfing facilities, both of which are close to Vilamoura in the centre of the Algarve.
Vilamoura also has a lot to offer those who are not so keen on golf, such as a marina lined with restaurants, bars and shops, a casino and some beautiful golden sandy beaches.
