Algarve holidays made easier for north-east residents
Algarve holidays will become a more accessible option for people living in north-east England when a direct route is opened between Newcastle and Faro next year.
Low-cost carrier Jet2.com announced that it would begin operating flights from the northern city to the Algarve on April 2nd 2011.
Faro serves as the main gateway to southern Portugal, providing easy access to the region for holiday makers who have booked villas in Albufeira, Bordeira and other popular hotspots.
Jet2.com announced five new direct routes from Newcastle and said the expansion will mean it offers more international services from the airport than any other carrier.
Travellers planning Costa Blanca holidays will be offered a direct link from Newcastle to Alicante, while those renting south of France villas will be able to fly to Toulouse in the Midi-Pyrenees region.
As well as introducing new routes from the north-east, the carrier will be offering additional flights from Newcastle to existing destinations such as Mahon and Palma in the Balearic Islands and Malaga on the Costa del Sol.
