Algarve holiday 'offers more than just golf'
An Algarve holiday can offer much more than the region's high-quality golf courses and beaches.
At least this is the view of Simon Calder, writing for the London Evening Standard, who has offered up a list of recommendations of things to do in Faro following the news that British Airways is increasing the number of flights to the city from London's Docklands airport.
He advised heading to Faro's old town with a trip through the Arco da Vila neo-classical gateway, where the Archaeological Museum houses artefacts that can be traced back through the city's history.
In addition, the Rua de Santo Antonio and Rua Vasco de Gama are home to speciality shops selling antiques, lace and port, while the marina is a great place to enjoy pre-dinner drinks while watching the sunset.
Daily Telegraph travel writer Gill Charlton recently recommended heading to Tavira, an ancient location that can be found to the east of Faro.
